Running in Bangkok: The Local Parks That Changed Everything 🇹🇭
Running in Bangkok sounds like a bad idea — until you discover the parks. Hidden between traffic-clogged streets and relentless tropical heat lies a network of green spaces that completely transform the experience of the city. From sunrise reflections over Benjakitti’s skyline to quiet kilometers around Rama IX’s lakes, Bangkok reveals a side most visitors never see.
This guide takes you inside the city’s best running routes — Lumpini, Benjakitti, Chatuchak, and beyond — with practical tips, local insights, and the unspoken rules that make it all work. Expect shaded loops, wildlife encounters, street food rewards, and a running culture that quietly comes alive before the city wakes.
If you think Bangkok isn’t a running destination, you’re about to see it differently.
Running in Siem Reap & Ultra Trail d’Angkor, Cambodia 🇰🇭
At 5:30 a.m., the sky shifts from black to deep purple, then to a stunning golden pink. The spires of Angkor Wat emerge from the morning mist, immense trees towering over the canopy bathed in golden light. Welcome to Siem Reap—where every run feels like a conversation with a thousand years of history.
Siem Reap won't give you mountain ridges or technical singletrack. It's flat, remarkably flat. But what's missing in vertical is made up for in atmosphere: rice paddies at dawn, ancient temple ruins, children waving from doorways, monkeys crossing your path, and roadside coffee kiosks with the warmest welcomes.
And if you want to push it further? The Ultra Trail d'Angkor 64km starts at 4 a.m. from the illuminated Terrasse des Éléphants. Running by headlamp through UNESCO temples, cheering villages, 700 steps up Phnom Bok, and crossing that finish line before lunch. First female, 7:07, 8th overall. The temples have been standing for a thousand years. They'll wait for you.
Trail Running Seoul 🇰🇷
At UltraNomades, we spent six weeks trail running in and around Seoul, discovering a city where subway-accessible hikes lead to granite peaks, pine forests, and historic fortress walls. From the technical climbs of Bukhansan National Park to the peaceful loops around Namsan and the panoramic ridges of the Seoul City Wall, every run revealed a new layer of Korea’s natural and cultural richness. We joined a local trail race just outside the city—proof that mountains surround Seoul—and met passionate runners like Jay and Mindy, who shared insights into Korean running culture. Through local clubs and weekend meetups, we discovered a vibrant community, even if language sometimes created distance. Whether training on open stadium tracks, running along the Han River, or exploring the Seoul Dulle-gil trail network, we found that nature in Seoul is never far. This city is a true trail running paradise, where adventure begins with a metro card and leads to summits.
