To surpass yourself is to experience the immense euphoria of each stride, the joy of feeling your heart beat wildly. It's the freedom to travel: rich in health and master of your own time.”

I was born in 1980 near Plessisville, Quebec's Maple Capital, where the landscape first whispered to me the secrets of nature that would guide my life.

My name is Francis Boutin, and trail running isn't just a sport for me; it's become a path to discover my own limits and the world around me. From the maple forests of my childhood to mountain trails across continents, each territory has revealed something new to me.

As a child, nature was my playground. Outings on my grandfather's land taught me patience and respect for wildlife - lessons that would serve me well on remote trails and long-distance runs.

I'm often described as meticulous and rigorous, perhaps to excess, as Elisabeth would sometimes say ;) When I commit to something, I give it my all. A true enthusiast! My body bears the marks of this dedication, but every setback has only strengthened my resolve.

Endurance isn't just physical for me; it's a state of mind. Although I claim not to be competitive, anyone who has seen me on the trails would smile at that statement!

In conversation, you'll rarely find me at a loss for words. I collect stories like others collect memories, always ready with a laugh-inducing anecdote. My curiosity extends to culinary cultures and traditions - exploring the grocery stores of a new country can be as exciting as discovering a hidden trail.

While I embrace challenges, my methodical nature means I prefer them well-planned. Ask me about my running goals and you'll hear me laugh: “run as many as possible!” But beneath the humor lies a deeper purpose - to surpass myself, to rediscover who I am when pushed to my absolute limit.

My greatest pride doesn't come from medals. It comes from those moments when I drew unsuspected strength, and then from sharing that triumph with the woman who has been by my side for 25 years. I appreciate that every race outing is a unique opportunity to contemplate the playground of local runners and to connect with them. Long live Strava! Each time, a new chapter is written on the paths of our shared history.
